Get a Library Card
Who may get a card?
Cards are free to children and adults who live in our service areas. Our official service area is Pentwater Township, including the Village of Pentwater. Our contracted services area includes Weare Township.
If you're a member of the Hart Area Public Library, Shelby Area District Library, or Walkerville Public School Library, you are eligible for a Pentwater Township Library account. This account allows you to borrow up to 25 items (books, DVDs, CDs, and Go-Bags) at a time. Please note that access to digital materials (Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy), MeLCat, and some specialized resources is reserved for Pentwater Township Library service areas.
How to apply
Come into the library and bring a valid photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID card, Government-issued ID card including military ID, or a Passport. You must also show proof of residency if the current address is not listed on your photo ID. Proof of residency can be a utility bill (phone, electric, water), mail with a recent postmark, vehicle registration or proof of insurance, or a checkbook that has both your name and address. Children may get a library card towards the end of first grade, after their visit to the library.
Not from Pentwater?
For those outside our service areas, including seasonal visitors and those in a township without an active contract, we offer an annual non-resident account for $50. This account is valid for one year from the date of purchase and allows you to borrow up to 25 items (books, DVDs, CDs, and Go-Bags) at a time. However, access to digital materials, MelCat and other specialized resources is not allowed.
Renewing your card
Library cards expire every three years and must be renewed in person, except for our annual cards that expire each year. Bring your current photo ID with proof of residency. You will not be able to place a hold, check out an item, or use our electronic resources until you renew your card.
